Is Homemade Pet Food Safe?

If your question is “Is homemade pet food safe?”, you should definitely go through this article. Here, I have shared my personal experience with homemade pet food.

Dogs and Cats, for many, are more than pets. They are like faithful companions who offer unconditional love. In return, they all require daily care, proper nutrition, exercise, and lots of hugs and praise. However, recent studies suggest that pet foods bought in stores may be detrimental to their health regarding nutrition. This article will discuss how homemade pet food fares better than processed and canned foods.

Homemade Pet Food for Dogs

Just as there are different breeds of dogs, so too, each requires a unique diet plan. A balanced diet should be prepared according to the canine’s size, breed, and special needs. The daily allowance of dog foods should include vitamins, minerals, protein, fat, carbohydrates, and water. Foods that should not be given to dogs include chocolate, dairy products, and foods that contain sugar or yeast. Most importantly, not the table scraps. Don’t give your prepared food to your dog.

A pet owner used to feed his pet dog homemade spaghetti and meatballs. The meat is full of protein, and the spaghetti is high in carbohydrates. Of course, this staple food was not a daily occurrence; however, it is contended that dogs were in good health, had exceptional shiny coats, and adapted to this Italian family’s cooking. Some dogs love carrots, cucumbers, and leafy vegetables as part of their diet.

My cocker spaniels loved vegetables, fruits, brown rice, and their homemade treats. They all have the required nutrients dogs need.

Nutritionists suggest alternating between meat products such as chicken and turkey. For puppies and growing-up puppies, meat, fruits, and vegetables are recommended. However, they do not recommend using pork or pork products in pet foods.

However, it should be noted that before preparing any homemade pet food for your dogs consult a pet nutritionist to ensure you are providing balanced meals to your pet dogs. They will suggest meal plans based on the breed type, as not all breeds are the same. Some breeds may require extra ingredients in their food for their physique and well-being.

Homemade Pet Food for Cats

Preparing homemade pet food for cats can be a bit tricky. They cannot tolerate preservatives; therefore, you must consult a vet to ascertain what type of diet is best for them.

However, the general consensus is that cats also require the same kind of nutrients as dogs. Vitamins,  minerals, carbohydrates, and fat must be part of their balanced diet. Nutritionists suggest higher amounts of protein for cats. Giving ground chicken, turkey, and ground lean beef may be beneficial for their health. They recommend giving a hard-boiled egg or scrambled egg as part of their balanced meal.

You have to ensure that you are fully aware of the source of fish. Cats love fish, and in some cases, it has been reported that tuna and other canned fish food may contain mercury. In small amounts, flaxseed oil, vegetables, and salt may be part of their diet.

It makes more sense to have homemade pet foods for your cat as an alternative to the processed food in the stores these days. Homemade pet food ingredients and meat or vegetables are in your know-how. So preparing healthy and sumptuous meals for your pets makes more sense. You love your pets and so go for holistic solutions regarding food preparation for your pets.

There is a consensus that canned foods are low quality, and your pets may reject them, too, as they may not be palatable to them. So take a confident route to ensure you and your pets are happy and contented.
